C&WI 261 Switching C&EI 1100 (red flag?) on Dearborn Station Leads |
Description: |
The Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad was the owner of Dearborn Station in Chicago and the trackage leading to it. It was owned equally by five of the railroads using it to reach the terminal, and kept those companies from needing their own lines into the city. |

"Kate Shelly" New Years Eve 1965 |
Description: |
C&NW's Kate Shelly 400 had just come in from Chicago on New Years Eve, 1965. She had a dinner lounge car, closed on Saturdays and Holidays, and coaches. She certainly did not run the 400 miles her name implies. Her run was 138 miles. One of the head-end crew had just climbed out of the cab and left his grip on the platform. His swinging lantern can be see across the pilot. |

The Kate Shelly 400 in December 1964 |
Description: |
CNW Tr. #2, the eastbound Kate Shelly 400 paused at DeKalb, Illinois on Dec. 28, 1964. It was not 7:00 a.m. yet. She left Clinton, Iowa well over an hour before where she slept the night and had about an hour to go to arrive in Chicago. She had a diner lounge car and coaches and certainly didn't not run the 400 miles her name implies. Her run was 138 miles. E-unit 5015A and its steam generator seemed to be working fine on this cold college break morning. |

Waiting for the Rain |
Description: |
This has to be the EB Afternoon Zephyr but my notes don't show the train number (see comments below). The exact E7A is unknown. Note the Roundhouse and State Capitol above the last car and the GN diesels to the right. Part of the St. Paul skyline is to the left. The first dome car is the original home-made dome, named Silver Dome with unique dome shape and no lowered floor beneath the dome because it was a coverted coach. The shot was taken at Division Street Tower and the train is about 2 minutes out of St. Paul Union Station. If you look over the last dome you can see the Capitol dome. See comments below. |
