Two Hump Units Humping
Title:  Two Hump Units Humping
Description:  Humping a train out of Proviso Yard 9 and over the hump, which is still many car lengths to the right, where they are uncoupled and roll through the retarders into the classification yard. The tall signals in the picture tell the engineers what to do, e.g., proceed at hump speed, back up, and stop. The caboose was probably part of the inbound train, which must have been very heavy to require that much hump power.

C&NW GP9 1755, Yard Slug BU7, and Probably SW1200 310
Title:  C&NW GP9 1755, Yard Slug BU7, and Probably SW1200 310
Description:  BU7 was built as switch engine model SC (predating the long-running SW series) as EMC 60 in Feb. 1937. It first road number was M&StL D438 then M&StL 60 then CNW 60. Then it was rebuilt to yard slug BU7 in Aug. 1963 and retired in Jan. 1979 (42 years in revenue service is a darn good career!). The number of its mother was not recorded but SW1200 #310 was its last known power unit. This slide was an unprojectable disaster. Fortunately I kept it and thanks to modern scanning technology and digital photo maniplation software it is just barely presentable.
