CB&Q 9245 in 1964  Contributor's Pick!
The CB&Q Mt. Morris Spur heads north 7 miles from the main line at Oregon, Illinois which is about half way between Savanna and Aurora, Illinois. It exists because of a major printer in Mt. Morris that receives paper and ships magazines. Shown here is the Mt. Morris Turn working in Mt. Morris on September 3, 1964.

Ron Moraca General Excellent photo, Marty!!! 4/27/2009 11:04:26 PM
Trevor Young General This is spectacular. They shut down the factory, used leased ex UP GP's and now the line doesn't get used at all. The silver boxes at the crossing gates of Harmony Rd and Rt 64 are now sitting down by the depot in Oregon. The old CBQ main runs right in front of my dad's house. It used to be part of the property. It's a shame to see it go. 1/29/2013 9:38:08 PM
Marty Bernard General I was the fill-in station agent thewre when the picture was taken. Did the printing plant shut down? 1/29/2013 9:43:58 PM
Trevor Young General It sure did. I want to say about 2 years ago. Train went up less than once a month with empty gondolas, returned with scrap metal. Now they are removing the crossing boxes and probably going to reuse them elsewhere. It's really sad. 1/29/2013 9:50:53 PM
