Trains Don't Sink In The Great Salt Lake  Contributor's Pick!
The train is on the Lucin Cutoff across the northern end of The Great Salt Lake. Built by SP (1902 - 04), it bypassed the original Central Pacific route through Promontory Summit where the Golden Spike was driven reducing the line by 43 miles and avoiding much curvature and grades.
