robert tricaro General This tower is located about 500 feet from the 8 track Jamaica passenger terminal. BAR's GP-7's were leased to the LIRR when Aroostook County potato season ended. The GP7's on lease were used for freight operations on the LIRR. This one, however looks as though it will back into one of the tracks to couple with a passenger train--although this would surprise me. 9/24/2008 1:15:52 AM
robert tricaro General Regarding the comment above, I recently saw an EKtachrom slide of BAR GP7 engine #68 pulling several LIRR 2900 passenger cars at Hunter's Point. The slide was taken 7/16/75. Apparently these leased BAR locos WERE used to augment LIRR passenger service. 9/30/2008 10:38:45 PM
Tom Beckett General The BAR GP 7's were used on passenger trains frequently. Somewhere I have a shot of a couple in Montauk from August of 1975. They could be used on the 2900 series electric heat cars, as well as the 2700 and 2800 series cars that had been rebuilt from MU's, since those cars drew their heat and light from an FA converted to power those amenities. Once the GP 38-2's and MP 15's arrived later in 1977, these units went back to BAR. 7/13/2015 3:11:15 AM
